Altitude Goes Out With a Bang!

This year’s Altitude Festival ended with a bang on Friday night. Another ridiculous line up for the final Gala show saw Frankie Boyle return to the stage, as well as broken-ribbed Matt Reed (this is the danger of comedy and snowsports), Andi Osho, Craig Campbell, the moustachioed Rufus Hound, Phill Jupitus, Michael Winslow, Milton Jones, Frankie Boyle, Ed Byrne and one of Ireland’s most beloved comedy hip hop duos Abandoman closing it out. The show was held together by Andrew Maxwell who appeared in his favourite new pair of Lederhosen. The night closed with a thank you to all from Maxwell and Altitude’s now infamous leather-wearing tech Chaz. Not that the comedy could stop there, it was only 11pm and they’d only had five hours of it! What was next? The final Late Late Show, which proved to be more revealing than most!

Maxwell returned to the stage of the Europahaus, clad only in the outer layer of the nipple chafing Lederhosen. This kicked off the theme of the night, with the comics emerging from the ‘clown box’ at the back of the stage with the question “Is the clown clad?” echoing around the room. All the comics on the bill (Tiernan Douieb, Matt Reed, Craig Campbell, Benny Boot and Abandoman respected the demands of the audience and emerged in more and more revealing costumes as the rider in the back was slowly depleted. Tiernan and Matt observed the shirtless rule to the tee, while Craig Campbell decided trouserless was the way to go. Then Benny Boot, not to be deterred by the challenge, emerged in boxers and a hat much to the delight of the audience. Once again Abandoman were called on to close the show, only to be joined on stage by a half naked Ed Byrne. His coat just about hid all (much to the relief of the front row). The hardcore comedy fans certainly saw more of all their favourites than any of them could ever have expected.

The silliness continued afterward but this isn’t the place for those kind of stories. All that matters is the Altitude Comedy Festival 2012 was a massive success and we cannot wait to get back out to Mayrhofen next year. Thank you to everyone who took part and made it such an excellent festival. See you on the slopes in 2013!
